Tangem Ring
Suits phone-first holders who want to sign by tapping a ring and keep two backup cards instead of a written phrase; less suited to anyone who wants to check transactions on the device itself or rely on open-source firmware.

- Multisig No srcNo built-in multisig coordinator. Maker discusses external on-chain tools without naming a supported coordinator. Source dated: 2024-06-13.
- Passphrase Yes srcImport existing seed plus passphrase. Guide explicitly includes scanning a card or ring. Source date: not stated.
- Bluetooth No srcNFC device; no Bluetooth. Source dated: 2026-07-10.
- SLIP-39 Shamir backup No srcInferred: Tangem imports 12-, 15-, 18-, 21- or 24-word phrases; SLIP-39 shares are 20 or 33 words. The card backup is not SLIP-39.
- BIP39 recovery phrase Partial srcSeedless card backup by default; a BIP39 phrase can be generated (12 or 24 words) or imported at setup. Tangem pages disagree on the lengths.
- Open-source firmware No srcTangem says the card firmware is closed-source and relies on independent audits; the app and SDK are open.

The Tangem Ring is a hardware wallet worn on the finger: a zirconia ceramic ring holding a chip and an NFC antenna, sold as a set with two backup cards. It has no screen and no battery. Tangem says the ring “is functionally the same as the new Tangem Wallet cards, except for its different form factor” (Tangem Ring page), and it launched on 17 July 2024, according to Tangem’s announcement. On 14 October 2026 Tangem’s pricing page listed the ring and two cards at $160, against $54.90 for a two-card Tangem Wallet set; the ring is not sold on its own.
How does the Tangem Ring work?
In seedless setup, Tangem says, “the ring’s built-in chip generates a random private key” during activation, and the key is backed up to the two cards so that it “is stored on the ring and two Tangem cards with no other copies”. The optional seed-phrase setup (below) works differently: the key comes from a phrase generated or imported through the app. Powered by the phone over NFC, the ring needs “no cables, batteries, or chargers”.
The phone is the screen: you read the amount and address in the Tangem app, then take the ring off and tap it on the phone to approve, after entering the access code or using biometrics, per Tangem’s FAQ. With no display on the ring, in our reading the phone’s integrity matters more than with a wallet that shows the address itself. See also the Tangem Wallet datasheet and Tangem vs Ledger.
Who is the Tangem Ring for?
It suits phone users who want the signer on their hand and would rather keep backup cards than a written phrase.
It is a weaker fit if you:
- want to check transactions on the device itself;
- work from a desktop: NFC is the only connection Tangem lists;
- want firmware you can read: it is closed-source;
- need native multisig: in a 2024 AMA, Tangem’s CEO said “We will not implement multi-sig algorithms in our wallet”, and pointed to on-chain solutions such as Gnosis Safe instead;
- want SLIP-39 backups or a Bitcoin-only edition: we found neither.
What is the Tangem Ring made of, and what sizes are there?
Tangem lists a “hypoallergenic zirconia ceramic shell”, an “IP69K” rating and resistance to “scratches, dust, water, and extreme temperatures”. The ring comes in US sizes 6 to 13 and is 7.8 to 8 mm wide; Tangem does not publish its weight. A ring that does not fit is returned and reordered in the right size.
What happens if you lose your Tangem Ring?
Tangem’s FAQ says “You can access your wallet through the backup cards”, and that a finder “will be unable to enter or reset your wallet” because the access code protects against “brute-force attacks”. A lost ring still holds the key, though, and Tangem’s buying guide says that after a loss or theft you can buy a new wallet and transfer your funds. In seedless mode, losing every Tangem device that holds the key means losing access; the ring FAQ adds that owners of two or more ring sets can back up between rings. A seed-phrase wallet can also be restored from the written phrase, with the compatibility caveat below.
Can you use a seed phrase with the Tangem Ring?
Yes, as an option: the ring page says it “supports generating or importing a seed phrase”. Tangem’s help center says the app picks 12 or 24 words “based on the BIP39 seed-phrase standard” and transfers the resulting keys to the devices; the phrase is shown only during setup. Tangem’s seed phrase FAQ conflicts on the 12-word option, answering that such a phrase can only be imported, and we have not verified current app behavior. Import accepts 12, 15, 18, 21 or 24 words, per the same FAQ.
The trade-offs:
- When the app generates the phrase, the app, not the chip, derives the keys and imports them into the devices; seed mode also accepts an existing phrase. The December 2024 logging bug (below) affected this path.
- An existing seed-phrase wallet cannot switch back to chip-generated keys: “you cannot revert”, says the FAQ. Tangem’s logging-bug notice separately describes moving funds out, resetting the devices and reactivating them as a new wallet without a seed phrase.
- Passphrases are import-only: Tangem’s passphrase guide (May 2024) says “Tangem Wallet does not yet support creating a wallet with a passphrase.”
- The help center warns that “Having a seed phrase does not guarantee that users can access their funds in another wallet”, because derivation methods differ.
See our seed phrase guide.
Is the Tangem Ring secure?
Tangem lists a “CC EAL6+ certified chip” without naming the part. Tangem’s firmware article says the firmware “is closed-source but formally evaluated by accredited experts”, while the app and SDK are open source. The ring page names audits by Kudelski Security and Riscure and says the firmware “cannot be updated”, so a flaw cannot be fixed on rings already sold.
Has the Tangem Ring been hacked?
Neither event below was an attack on the ring itself.
- December 2024, app logging bug. Tangem disclosed that during seed-phrase activation “the private key was mistakenly logged” by the app, in logs that support could access if the user contacted it through the app within 7 days. Tangem said fewer than 0.1% of users could be affected and no funds were lost, and it fixed the app.
- July 2026, laboratory laser attack on a card. Ledger Donjon, the lab of rival maker Ledger, used laser fault injection to reset a Tangem card’s access code and sign transactions. It needed physical possession and equipment Donjon puts at around $250,000, and Donjon says the flaw “cannot be patched”. It tested a card with a Samsung S3D232A chip, not the ring. Tangem responded on 9 July 2026 that “the practical risk is virtually non-existent” and announced no fix. The two cards in a ring set hold the same key; we have not verified whether they use the chip Donjon tested.
What we could not verify
- The weight of the ring, and the size and weight of its cards.
- The ring’s chip part number, whether its cards use the chip Donjon tested, and whether the attack works on the ring.
- SLIP-39 support or a Bitcoin-only edition.
- Current multisig behavior: the vendor statement dates from 2024.
- Whether the app generates 12-word phrases: one answer in Tangem’s FAQ says they can only be imported.
- The test behind the IP69K rating.

Tangem disclosed private-key logging in the mobile app for seed-phrase activation combined with contacting support within seven days. Tangem reported no funds lost.10
-
Brand-wide mobile app; seed-phrase activation path, potentially relevant to Ring users
Tangem disclosed private-key logging during seed-based activation combined with in-app support contact within seven days. It reported fixes and no observed loss. This was an app issue, not a demonstrated Ring-chip attack.11
-
Tangem cards, including a relevant backup-card threat
Donjon demonstrated a physical laser password-reset attack against Tangem cards. The report did not separately demonstrate the attack against the ring.12
