The Blockstream Jade Plus is a Bitcoin-only hardware wallet with a 1.9-inch display, a camera for QR codes, USB-C, Bluetooth and an SD card slot. Blockstream describes its firmware as fully open source and its protection model as a “virtual secure element” rather than a physical secure chip. On 14 October 2026 Blockstream’s store listed it at $149 to $169. This page is built from Blockstream’s documentation; we have not used the device.

Who is the Jade Plus for?

It fits Bitcoin-only holders who want a small signer that can work over QR codes and plugs into common Bitcoin desktop software. Blockstream lists its own Blockstream app, Sparrow Wallet, Electrum and HWI as compatible.

It fits less well if you:

  • hold other coins: Blockstream’s product page describes the Jade Plus as Bitcoin-only, with Liquid Network support;
  • want a physical secure element as part of your threat model;
  • need native SLIP-39 share backups, which we could not verify for this model.

What are the Jade Plus specs?

The datasheet beside this text lists every value with its source. Three of them shape how the device is used. The camera means transactions can travel by QR code with no cable, the pattern our air-gapped hardware wallets guide explains. The 280 mAh battery means it does not need a cable for power. And the size, 65 x 30 x 12 mm and 25 g for the plastic version or 30 g for the metal one, puts it in the same weight class as the Trezor Safe 5 (23 g by Trezor’s figures). Blockstream’s pages we checked give the screen size but do not say whether it is a touchscreen.

How much does the Blockstream Jade Plus cost?

On 14 October 2026 Blockstream’s product page listed the reinforced plastic version from $149 and the metal versions from $169. For context, the same store listed the original Jade at $67 and the Jade Core, which Blockstream says has no display or camera, at $99 on the same day. Prices change; treat these as a dated snapshot.

Does the Jade Plus have a secure element?

Not a physical one. The product page describes “virtual secure element” security, and Blockstream’s help centre explains how that works on Jade:

  • The recovery phrase is stored encrypted. Decrypting it needs three secrets: your PIN, a secret on the device, and a secret held by a remote “blind oracle” that Blockstream runs.
  • The oracle never learns your PIN. The companion app, such as the Blockstream app, opens an encrypted channel to the oracle; the Jade itself does not talk to it.
  • After three wrong PINs, the device and the oracle delete their keys, and the wallet has to be restored from the recovery phrase.
  • You can run your own PIN oracle instead of using Blockstream’s, or unlock by entering the recovery phrase directly.

Blockstream’s FAQ on the choice says secure elements are typically covered by NDAs, add cost and stop users from building their own device. It acknowledges that secure elements exist to resist physical attacks and argues its design gives similar protection. If physical attacks weigh heavily for you, compare it with devices that use secure element chips, such as the Trezor Safe 5 or the COLDCARD Q.

Is the Jade Plus open source?

Blockstream’s product page calls the Jade Plus fully open source, and its help centre says the same of Jade. Its secure-element FAQ adds that the blind oracle model is fully open source, and Blockstream publishes its blind PIN oracle server code on GitHub. We did not verify that Blockstream’s hosted oracle runs the published code.

How do you back up a Jade Plus?

With a recovery phrase. Blockstream’s product page says that phrase restores access in any compatible wallet. Blockstream’s Jade documentation says Jade uses the BIP39 passphrase standard. We could not verify which recovery phrase lengths the Jade Plus creates, or native SLIP-39 share backups. Our seed phrase guide explains why the backup format decides where you can restore.

Which coins and wallets work with the Jade Plus?

Blockstream describes the Jade Plus as Bitcoin-only with Liquid Network support. We did not verify which Liquid assets it handles or over which connections. On the software side, Blockstream lists the Blockstream app, Sparrow Wallet, Electrum and HWI. Blockstream documents the Jade as a key in Unchained’s collaborative 2-of-3 multisig vaults. We did not verify every coordinator or multisig configuration.

Has the Jade Plus had security issues?

On 16 December 2025 Blockstream published a security disclosure covering Jade firmware, including the Jade Plus. Researchers at DARKNAVY found a missing size check in the register_descriptor command that could corrupt memory and possibly allow limited code execution on an unlocked device. Firmware 1.0.37 fixed it, and 1.0.38 added anti-rollback protection against reinstalling older firmware. QR mode was outside this attack path, and Blockstream reported no known exploitation in the wild.

What we could not verify

  • When the Jade Plus was released. We found no dated launch announcement.
  • Native SLIP-39 support and the exact recovery phrase lengths for this model.
  • Whether the 1.9-inch screen is a touchscreen.
  • Where the device is manufactured.
  • Which Liquid assets it supports, and over which connection modes.

  1. Jade firmware, including Jade Plus

    DARKNAVY reported a register_descriptor RPC size-check flaw allowing stack corruption and possible limited code execution on unlocked devices. Fixed in 1.0.37; 1.0.38 added anti-rollback. QR mode was outside this RPC attack path.6
