Ledger Flex vs Stax
The Flex suits buyers who want a touchscreen Ledger at $249; the Stax suits those willing to pay $399 for a larger curved screen, Qi charging and a thinner body (Ledger US shop, 14 October 2026). Security chip, backup options and coin support are the same on both.

The Ledger Flex and Ledger Stax share the same secure element, battery rating, radios, backup options and app support. On Ledger’s spec sheets, the main differences are price, screen, Qi charging and the shape of the body. Specifications and prices come from Ledger’s own pages, linked in the table above; incident dates come from the sources recorded in our dataset. We have not used either device.
Ledger Flex or Stax: which one fits you?
- Pick the Flex if you want a touchscreen and an included NFC backup card at the lower list price. On 14 October 2026, Ledger’s US shop listed it at $249.
- Pick the Stax if a 3.7-inch screen, Qi wireless charging and a 6 mm thick body are worth $150 more to you. It was listed at $399 on the same day.
- Consider neither if you need SLIP-39 Shamir backups, a Bitcoin-only build or fully open firmware. Ledger’s pages we checked do not offer the first two for either model, and Ledger describes its firmware as partly closed. Our Coldcard vs Trezor and Ledger vs Trezor pages cover devices with different trade-offs.
What is the difference between the Ledger Flex and Stax?
1. Price. $249 for the Flex against $399 for the Stax, both on Ledger’s US shop on 14 October 2026. Ledger’s comparison page lists a Ledger Recovery Key card in the box with both, and a protective magnet shell with the Stax.
2. Screen. The Flex has a 2.8-inch E Ink touchscreen at 480 x 600 pixels, which Ledger lists under Gorilla Glass. The Stax has a curved 3.7-inch E Ink touchscreen at 400 x 670, which Ledger lists as lightweight durable plastic. Both show 16 levels of grey. The Stax screen is larger. The Flex fits slightly more pixels (about 288,000 against 268,000) into a smaller panel, so its image is denser. Whether the extra size is worth paying for depends on how often you read long addresses and contract details before approving them.
3. Charging. Both have a USB-C port, and Ledger’s Flex and Stax product pages list a USB-C to USB-C cable in the box. Ledger lists Qi wireless charging for the Stax only.
4. Size and weight. The Flex measures 78.4 x 56.5 x 7.7 mm and weighs 58 g. The Stax measures 85 x 54 x 6 mm and weighs 45 g. The Stax is longer, but narrower, thinner and 13 g lighter.
5. Firmware fix numbers. Ledger’s January 2025 advisory LSB-021 covered a firmware-update validation flaw that could brick a device. The fix shipped in Flex 1.2.2 and Stax 1.6.2. Ledger says funds were never at risk. Either way, the practical step is the same: keep the device on current firmware.
What do the Flex and Stax have in common?
- Secure element: ST33K1M5 on both.
- Connectivity: USB-C, Bluetooth (BLE 5.2) and NFC on both.
- Battery: up to 10 hours of normal use or 150 transactions, per Ledger, on both.
- Backup: a 24-word BIP39 recovery phrase, an optional passphrase, the included Recovery Key card, and the optional paid Ledger Recover service. Ledger’s Recover page says the service works with both the Flex and the Stax through the desktop and mobile versions of Ledger’s app. Our seed phrase guide explains how the 24 words work.
- Coins: 500+ through the Ledger Wallet app and thousands through third-party wallets, per Ledger.
- Open source: partial on both. Ledger says its agreement with STMicroelectronics stops it from publishing the low-level secure element code.
- Release year: 2024 for both.
- Company history: the same Ledger-level events, including the 2020 customer-data breach and the January 2026 exposure of order data through Global-e. Both concerned customer contact and order data. See Is Ledger safe?.

What we could not verify
- SLIP-39 (Shamir) backup support on either model: not stated on the Ledger pages we checked.
- A Bitcoin-only edition of either model: none found.
- Which third-party multisig coordinators Ledger confirms for each model. Ledger’s multisig statement covers its devices in general.
- Durability figures for either E Ink panel, including the Stax’s curved screen.
